Morouj Commodities Ltd is among the largest companies in the foodstuff packaging and import sector in Sudan. Founded in 2005, the company steadily leaped from one success to another, while upholding its founders’ aspirations and goals. In a short span of time, we were able to enforce our presence among other companies operating in the same sector in Sudan. This was through introducing exceptional quality products that are now in every Sudanese home. We consider our good reputation and the continuous development of our employees to be the pillars of our success. We now have 400 fully dedicated employees working as one. Over the years, we have built a solid name for ourselves and have become known for our three brands: Al Farasha, Al-Wadi and Tatto Mitto. The three brands are now widely recognized in the food market owing to their fair trade and fair competition practices. Through them, we have tried to meet the needs of the Sudanese consumers. In addition, provide them with the products they want, while matching international standards and specifications.
The Beginning As is the case with all newly established companies, Morouj Commodities Ltd encountered many challenges. However, we were able to overcome those difficulties and obstacles with determination and patience, hard work, bright minds and ideas of our employees. Thus, taking our first steps towards success. In 2008, we have built our first factory especially for our tomato paste and milk powder packaging. This enabled us to produce sufficient quantities and in different sizes that meet the customers’ needs. The factory gave us the opportunity to expand our production and tap into larger areas. That same year, Al Farasha, the flagship brand of Morouj Commodities Ltd was launched in the market.

That same year, Al Farasha, the flagship brand of Morouj Commodities Ltd was launched in the market. In 2012, the company moved to the industrial area of Khartoum Bahri (Khartoum North). Relocating the company aimed to merge the production and administrative departments, sharing one building extending over 15,000 square meters. Through this move, we were able to reduce our expenditures and increase our competitiveness. This facilitated the distribution and deployment process, especially for the new Al Farasha tomato paste, making it the most popular brand in Sudan. By moving to our new premises, we have expanded our production to most of the Sudanese states and developed our suppliers’ network around the world. This shift has allowed us to rapidly establish ourselves as one of the largest companies operating in Sudan. The world is changing every day. The growth of factories around the world is damaging our planet by emitting carbon dioxide giving rise to global warming gradually. Climate change is on the rise. Resources are becoming scarce and the population is growing rapidly. This is giving rise to social, environmental and economic issues that need to be addressed. Within 25 years, Sudan had lost 25% of its forests. Darfur had lost one-third and East of Sudan had lost two- third of its forests. Due to the fall in the percentage of rainfall, the dessert area has increased from 50 to 200 km2. Moreover, this is leading to extreme weather causing a 20% damage in the agricultural production. This damage is contributing to the cause of malnutrition, poverty and other associated diseases. The future of our children is in danger. Hence, there had to be a solution to save our planet, our only home. As a company, it is our responsibility to contribute in making a difference to those big issues that matter most to our business and to the world. Our belief is that business growth should not be at the expense of the society or the environment. Thus, we had set goals to contribute in ongoing green programs, activities and practices to increase our social impact (our corporate social responsibility) and to encourage the youth to think green and create such initiatives. Morouj welcomed an initiation by a young entrepreneur called Amel who presented a green project which aligned perfectly with our green goals. And Morouj had the opportunity to participate in such a big project called Hattab Forest. A research was carried out to identify the need analysis at different levels. At first, Hattab was a land of garbage dump and sewage water. We wanted to step in to change this fact and take an opportunity to water our trees by using this waste of sewage water. A partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, the Sewage Authority and the native people of Hattab area was held to join hands and save our home. On 11th March 2017, phase one of Hattab project started. Employees of Morouj, natives of Hattab area, students from different schools and Safia Women Organization were volunteers in planting 9000 Neem trees in an area of 36 acres and we are taking care of our trees each period. We are planning to extend the area to 1500 acres as we hope for a better healthy environment for us and our coming generations. We would like to encourage our private sector similar to replicate this initiative for more positive impact.
